Daniel Leeman

Cantor Daniel Leeman

Daniel Leeman has served as Cantor of Beth Israel since June, 2003. Previously, he served as spiritual leader of Beth Tikvah Congregation in Richmond, British Columbia for two years. Before, he served as Cantor for Adas Kodesh Shel Emeth Congregation in Wilmington, Delaware for seven years.

A graduate of Swarthmore college, Cantor Leeman studied at the Cantors Institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary in Jerusalem and received further Cantorial training from the Belz School of Jewish Music, a branch of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Seminary of Yeshiva University in New York.

Cantor Leeman is a member of the Cantors Assembly affiliated with the Conservative movement and for many years was a member of the Cantors Council of America affiliated with Union of Orthodox Rabbis. Cantor Leeman is also a composer and an accomplished cellist.

In addition to serving the synagogue membership Cantor Leeman has taken an active role in the greater community. Cantor Leeman served on the Rabbinical Association of Vancouver to foster a greater communication among Jewish professionals. He was a lecturer about Jewish Music at the Academy of Lifelong Learning, a branch of the University of Delaware. Cantor Leeman has been a presentor of new compositions at the National Convention of the Cantors Assembly. He has recently been appointed Hillel advisor at Bowdoin College.

Cantor Leeman is married to Barbara Goldenstein Leeman who holds a bachelors degree in Math and Economics from Clark University in Worcester, MA. She was a software educational consultant with Arthur Andersen and Digital Equipment Corporation. She also worked in the computer lab at the Richmond Jewish Day School in British Columbia.

Cantor and Mrs. Leeman have three children: Hannah Miriam, Samuel Aaron and Arielle Esther.
